McBush Palin galaxy of smears
Brad Delong on McCain’s plan to have taxpayers buy up mortgages.
[W]e would in fact be taking the negative equity position and putting it on the taxpayers books instead of putting it on the private lenders books or the homeowners books. We think the balance of risk has shifted to the point where this is the way to go…( actually that’s a block quote Brad used from Douglas Holtz-Eakin)
That post is almost 24 hours old so its not surprising that McCain’s staff has had time to absorb exactly what was wrong with McCain melodramatic announcement. Now the McCain camp is claiming that what they meant to say was they would buy the mortgages, not at full value (a boon to lenders who screwed up and the reason Obama had opposed such a plan), but at a discount rate, McCain changes homeowner plan
The document posted and e-mailed by the McCain campaign on Tuesday night says at the end of its first full paragraph: “Lenders in these cases must recognize the loss that they’ve already suffered.”
So the government would buy the mortgages at a discounted rate, reflecting the declining value of the mortgage paper.
But when McCain reissued the document on Wednesday, that sentence was missing, to the dismay of many conservatives.
That would mean the U.S. would pay face value for the troubled documents, which was the main reason Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) gave for opposing the plan.
Mac campaign staff takes a bullet for that one. Well, except in both the original Tuesday night press release and the new improved version say it will still costs $300 billion.
Senator Obama also noticed that McCain is more courageous on video then in real life, Obama: McCain Scoring ‘Cheap Political Points’
Obama said he believes the personal attacks are an attempt to “change the subject” and draw attention away from the issue at the front of most voters’ minds: the struggling economy.
“I mean, you’ve had their spokespeople over the last couple of days say if we talk about the economic crisis, we lose. I mean, you can’t be much more blatant than that,” he said.
Obama also said he was surprised some of those attacks weren’t brought up by his opponent at the debate Tuesday night at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.
“I am surprised that, you know, we’ve been seeing some pretty over-the-top attacks coming out of the McCain campaign over the last several days, that he wasn’t willing to say it to my face. But I guess we’ve got one last debate. So presumably, if he ends up feeling that he needs to, he will raise it during the debate.”
McWuss still has the opportunity to tell Obama that being in the vicinity of someone that committed crimes when Obama was eight makes Obama just as culpable. Like all Right-wing Rules this of course only applies to Democrats. McCain calls for Obama to retract ‘air-raiding’ comment, despite making identical comments in 2000. TProgress sites Mccain’s hypocrisy since he said basically the same thing about Kosovo. Even more relevant is that Secretary of Defense Gates has expressed regrets over the killing of Afghanistan civilians, Gates regret over Afghan civilians killed in air strike
The defence secretary voiced “sincere condolences and personal regret over the recent loss of innocent lives as a result of coalition air strikes,” pledging to look for better ways to target insurgents.
“On those rare occasions when we do make mistakes, when there is an error, we need to apologise quickly, to compensate civilians quickly, and then carry out an investigation,” he said.
[ ]…Such air strikes have killed scores of civilians, angering war-weary Afghans and prompting President Hamid Karzai’s administration to call for new rules to regulate the use of force by coalition troops.
“You have my word we will do everything in our power to target our common enemy while protecting the good people of Afghanistan,” Gates told reporters after meeting Karzai in Kabul.
Difficult to get the locals to support your presence and help or to convince them we’re there to help. especially when you kill women and children, as hard as the military may try not to. No one believes the military purposely targets civilians. The point is we’re using air raids in place of ground troops because so many troops are still tied down in Mesopotamia. McCain, like many on the Right wears their feigned concern for the military on their sleeve when it suits their political agenda, McCain’s Voting Record: He Does Not Support Our Troops and Veterans
September 2007: McCain voted against the Webb amendment calling for adequate troop rest between deployments. At the time, nearly 65% of people polled in a CNN poll indicted that “things are going either moderately badly or very badly in Iraq.
July 2007: McCain voted against a plan to drawdown troop levels in Iraq. At the time, an ABC poll found that 63% thought the invasion was not worth it, and a CBS News poll found that 72% of respondents wanted troops out within 2 years.
March 2007: McCain was too busy to vote on a bill that would require the start of a drawdown in troop levels within 120 days with a goal of withdrawing nearly all combat troops within one year. Around this time, an NBC News poll found that 55% of respondents indicated that the US goal of achieving victory in Iraq is not possible. This number has not moved significantly since then.
February 2007: For such a strong supporter of the escalation, McCain didn’t even bother to show up and vote against a resolution condemning it. However, at the time a CNN poll found that only 16% of respondents wanted to send more troops to Iraq (that number has since declined to around 10%), while 60% said that some or all should be withdrawn. This number has since gone up to around 70%.
June 2006: McCain voted against a resolution that Bush start withdrawing troops but with no timeline to do so.
May 2006: McCain voted against an amendment that would provide $20 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for health care facilities.
April 2006: McCain was one of only 13 Senators to vote against $430,000,000 for the Department of Veteran Affairs for Medical Services for outpatient care and treatment for veterans.
You get the idea. Talk is cheap, thus McCain has plenty. The media, those crazy libruls, still love McCain though, Media repeat Cindy McCain’s attack on Obama troop-funding vote, ignore John McCain’s troop-funding vote. They just can’t bring themselves to say to McShame or his surrogates, you’re a liar. Rage in the Town of Bethlehem
State Rep. Karen Beyer darkly warned the crowd that “Barack Obama doesn’t know anything about you.”
Cindy McCain implied that Obama was trying to harm her son. “My son . . . has served on the front lines,” she told the crowd, with her husband and Palin standing behind her. “Let me tell you, the day Senator Obama decided to cast a vote not to fund my son when he was serving . . . sent a cold chill through my body, let me tell you. I suggest that Senator Obama change shoes with me for just one day and see what it means to have a loved one serving in the armed forces, and, more importantly, serving in harm’s way.”
Senator Biden (D) doesn’t have to change shoes, he has a son in Iraq. As do Obama supporters like General Wesley Clarke and Senator Jim Webb. This event was a notch away from being a mob more then a political rally.
Scientists question terrorist-hunting techniques
“There is not a consensus within the relevant scientific community” that behavior detection is “ready for use … given the present state of the science,” the group said.
The group cautioned that “inappropriate … responses to the terrorist threat … can do more damage to the fabric of society than terrorists would be likely to do.”
The 352-page report by the National Research Council, an arm of the National Academy of Sciences, does not evaluate the TSA or any other specific government program. Instead, it explores issues related to data mining and behavior detection techniques and attempts to advise lawmakers how to appropriately balance security with privacy.
The cow is already out of the barn on turning every American into a suspect. Privacy has become a quaint idea because those with nothing to hide shouldn’t mind giving up our freedoms, except of course for Govenor Palin’s e-mail.

The Palins’ un-American activities
“My government is my worst enemy. I’m going to fight them with any means at hand.”
This was former revolutionary terrorist Bill Ayers back in his old Weather Underground days, right? Imagine what Sarah Palin is going to do with this incendiary quote as she tears into Barack Obama this week.
Only one problem. The quote is from Joe Vogler, the raging anti-American who founded the Alaska Independence Party. Inconveniently for Palin, that’s the very same secessionist party that her husband, Todd, belonged to for seven years and that she sent a shout-out to as Alaska governor earlier this year. (“Keep up the good work,” Palin told AIP members. “And God bless you.”)
AIP chairwoman Lynette Clark told me recently that Sarah Palin is her kind of gal. “She’s Alaskan to the bone … she sounds just like Joe Vogler.”
So who are these America-haters that the Palins are pallin’ around with?
